Summer Group Tuition Courses!

Over the summer there is always the debated balance between children switching off and having a break (that is well deserved!) and wanted to keep the brain active, keep the learning going and be ready to go back to school in September with a bang! The 11+ being right at the beginning of September adds to this desire to keep the focus going and more importantly keep the practise and knowledge there.

After an extremely busy summer last year with many one-to-one sessions and group sessions in full flow, this year at Happy Owls Tuition we have developed many summer courses no matter what the need. If you wish for your child to consolidate learning between Years 3 up to Year 9, we have courses suitable for you. If you want to get the learning started for September and the new year, for example if your child has just finished Year 4 and you want to start learning the Year 5 core subjects, we have courses for you. If you are looking to begin the 11+ journey – or finish the 11+ journey as your child is currently in Year 5, we have courses for you!

We have specialist English and Maths tutors – both primary and secondary – as well as a dedicated 11+ team who will cover so much in the weekly sessions. The complete timetable below shows all the sessions we have on offer:

Better still, we totally understand summer holidays are common, and so we will be recording all of our weekly sessions and so if you sign up to all of them your child will still be able to exclusively watch back the session they may miss from being on holiday or at a summer camp, and do all the work from that session. All resources will be sent over too!

We are also doing an incredible deal for those who want to attend all five weekly sessions!

So what are the benefits of group tuition and why might it work for your child this summer?

Group tuition has several advantages in comparison to one-to-one tuition – not just the cost.

Yes it can be more affordable in comparison to one-to-one tuition (if it is right for your child) and so better for the budget, but group tuition also adds many aspects that cannot be achieved in one-to-one tuition alone. To start with, children can benefit from having learning peers and ‘study buddies’. This allows for collaboration and in group tuition children have the opportunity to learn from each other, bounce off each other and encourage each other. Sometimes in the classroom, it isn’t always what the tutor or teacher is saying, the children can reword the learning briefly and it can reinforce a child’s thinking. This enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills and in our group sessions we have actively seen joy and celebration when children work in pairs or small groups to achieve a common goal. In our group sessions we will also ensure that every child gets a chance to work with our tutor to make sure they independently understand the learning.

Group tuition can also promote a little healthy competition. When tutees see their peers actively participating and making progress, it can make others work harder and strive for better performance in themselves. This friendly (and it will always be friendly!) competition can spur individual tutees to push their own boundaries and achieve higher academic goals.  This advantage goes hand in hand with the social interaction element that is available with group tuition. Some children prefer to work in a social group as it provides a support network where tutees can seek help, support and share their academic work with each other. It can also be a group where emotional support is such a benefit from peer to peer. This sense of belonging and idea of being a community within each group gives a joyous feeling of being part of something – much like clubs our children go to, or teams they play for – and the support is outstanding to see.

So, if you are considering tuition over the summer, and feel like group tuition is right for your child, please do get in touch to book your place on our summer courses. Spaces are limited as we believe children work best in small groups with a maximum number. We look forward to hearing from you as we look to ensure summer learning is exciting, engaging and ensures excellent academic progress!
